BROOKLYN CONNECTION

Klaartje Quirijns / Netherlends 2005 / 52 min

It isn't often documentary filmmakers manage to directly and clearly depict facts underpinning our social and political reality. Conflicts such as the 1997-1999 Kosovo war capture the attention of the media and human rights organizations, but there remain certain aspects which are seldom taken into account. Klaartje Quirijns' documentary depicts Florin Krasniqi, a Brooklyn businessman born and raised in Kosovo, who bought hundreds of firearms in the USA, both during the Kosovo war and after the ceasefire, and transported them absolutely legally into Albania. These were then smuggled into Kosovo. Krasniqi is convinced a second war in Kosovo is only a matter of time.
