The hour of documentaries has come!!!

If you have any ideas for documentary films on human rights that would interest Ukrainian and international audiences,

if you are on the lookout for contacts with European producers and television companies and would like to implement your documentary film projects,

if you have completed films fit to be released on and broadcast by a European TV channel, then

THE SECOND UKRAINIAN WORKSHOP
ON INTERNATIONAL CO-PRODUCTION OF DOCUMENTARY FILMS
scheduled for 1-2 April, during the UKRAINIAN CONTEXT Festival
Human Rights Documentary Films Days

During the workshop you will:

  • participate in a two-day crash-course training session and further develop your filmscript under the guidance of experienced Europen tutors;
  • obtain information about European audio- and video-market, about production of films on human rights;
  • have a possibility to pitch your project for implementation within the framework of international documentary film co-production;
  • obtain guiding materials on formatting your project proposals in compliance with international market rules and standards;
  • participate in master classes given by leading European documentary film directors;
  • view films-participants in the Ukrainian Context Days of Films on Human Rights.

The workshop aims at:
creating adequate conditions for production and release of interesting and professionally done Ukrainian documentary films on human rights. Participants in the workshop will receive proper assistance in order to prepare their film projects and get them under way, to identify prospective sources of financing and, finally, to create quality documentaries that would be subsequently released for cinema theatre viewing or television broadcasting.

Participation conditions and restrictions:
The workshop will involve 15 (fifteen) projects represented by one person per project. The best projects will obtain assistance and support for their subsequent implementation and roll-out.

What projects would be acceptable to the workshop organisers?

  • Projects based upon extensive preliminary research and carried out on the bases of sensible, clearly written, coherent scripts.
  • Projects whose interesting history could attract international audience.
  • Projects do not need to touch upon global issues; interesting local stories that appeal to universal human perception would be most welcome.
  • The acceptable range of projects varies from full-length documentaries to 'portrait-size' films.

The workshop organisers would pay particular attention to stories of the 'Orange Revolution' in November-December 2004, stories that would analyse these events, delve into the issues of human rights, uphold human dignity, mutual cultural understanding, tolerance, rule of law.

Application and participation requirements:

  • E-mail your application (please find below the form) and resume (see Supplement 1) in Ukrainian (Russian) and English to (info@magikafilm.com.ua) before 10 March 2005.
  • Participation in the workshop is free of charge.
  • Workshop organisers will cover hotel accomodation and subsistence expenses incurred by the participants in the workshop.
  • Please expect NO per diem payments.

  • The organisers reserve the right to select prospective participants in the workshop.
