Danube Exodus

The distinguished Hungarian director, Peter Forgacs, crafts his films from old, amateur archive film footages. His signature editing and excellent soundtracks make his films recognizable after only a few minutes, even though Forgacs does not record his own footage. Visually and musically, his documentaries are extremely careful compositions – true works of film art.

The “Danube Exodus” chronicles the trip of a Danube River fleet prior to and during WWII. The Captain of the “Queen Elizabeth ”, Nandor Andrasovits, recorded the exodus of Slovak Jews for the Black Sea and Palestine , and then the ship's return upriver with Bessarabian Germans running from the Red Army as it takes Moldavia and North Bukovina .
